The Cambridge University Energy Network is delighted to welcome Dr Nick Baker, formerly of the Department of Architecture, University of Cambridge. His talk, entitled People and Sustainability, will look at the impact of human behaviour and technical development on carbon emissions.

"It is often said that it is not buildings that use energy, but rather the people in them. It is probably more accurate to say that people cause buildings, and other systems, to use energy. And whilst we have developed an almost complete understanding of the physics of energy flows in buildings, and can model it with some precision, we have a very imperfect knowledge of the impact of human behaviour in causing the building to use energy."

Nick Baker studied physics but has spent the majority of his professional life working in building physics as a teacher, researcher and consultant. His particular interests lie in energy modelling, thermal comfort and daylighting, on which topics he has published many papers. He is author of the LT Method and energy design tool and has written and contributed to several other books. His recent interest has focussed on the refurbishment of the existing building stock and on the impact of human behaviour on energy consumption in buildings

The talk will include a Q&A session and be followed by refreshments.
